Northwest Missouri State women's basketball dropped the season opener to Northeastern State 64-56 despite an impressive career debut from true freshman Molly Hartnett.
Hartnett scored 22 points and pulled down 9 rebounds to lead a Bearcat attack that shot 49-percent from the field (24-49).
The Riverhawks responded with a 22-point outing from Zaria Collins and 20 points from Cenia Hayes to lead the charge.
The Bearcats held its largest lead of six points in the third quarter, but NSU responded with a 12-4 run to jump in front.
Northwest is on the road again Saturday for a matchup with Rogers State in Claremore, OK. Tip off is set for 1:30pm. Pregame on KXCV 90.5, KRNW 88.9 begins at 1pm.
